Last week's Keep the Quote winner was 5th grader, Madison Boettcher! Madison saw an opportunity for kindness and showed compassion for an adult who was going through a hard time. She went out of her way to ask how the person was doing and gave a hug. Such a small act can mean a lot to a person!

Yesterday, Shaylie K. attended Governor Pillen’s Student Leadership Event. She and three other students from ESU 8 schools met at the ESU in Neligh and virtually attended through Zoom. The day started with a panel of legislative staff who shared the path that led them to their current job, and they shared what their jobs entailed. The Governor, who was live at ESU 3 in Lavista, talked to the students about life lessons that he has learned throughout his lifetime. He also answered student questions that were submitted before the event. The Governor plans to continue similar events across the state.

A huge thank you to the Summerland Community for making the FBLA blood drive a great success! We managed to collect 69 units, with 7 first-time donors and a total of 18 student contributors. We also appreciate the staff members who took the time to donate. With several drives being canceled the week prior due to weather conditions, the Red Cross was especially thankful for our efforts. Thanks to everyone for your support! And always gratful to Three and Company Baking for their contributions.

This week's Keep the Quote winner is 2nd grader, Jhett Johnston! At recess, Jhett went out of his way to include others when they were being excluded. When a student was told that he couldn't play a game because they already had enough players, Jhett sat out so that the other friend could play instead. Kindness toward others was his mission!
